ISC 2022: Europe’s biggest HPC event is about to start

Hamburg will host ISC High Performance 2022 from may 29 to june 2. Trends and major developments in HPC, machine learning and data analytics are the central topics of this years edition. More than 60 countries and three thousand attendees will be involved.

Exibihitions, conferences, workshops and tutorials. There’ll be everything in this mega meeting that explores the universe of computing and its possible applications in science, technology, engineering and industry. Between may 29 and june 2, the city of Hamburg will host ISC 2022, under the motto “#TransformingTheFuture”. Distance will certainly not be an issue, because everything will be broadcast online – with proper registration.

Over these days, there’ll be at least six main categories with multiple topics within themselves that will be up for discussion:

1. System architecture

HPC processor and memory evolution; parallel computer architecture; the road to zetascale computing;

2. Applications and algorithms

Mathematical libraries; climate and weather applications; new and unconventional applications; mixed precision algorithms; emerging applications for quantum computing;

3. Parallel programming models and performance modelling

HPC workflows; performance modelling and correctness tools; heterogeneous HPC technologies and programming challenges;

4. Machine learning

AI applications; ethical implications of AI; ML empowering/optimizing classical HPC codes; Bioinformatics in the age of COVID;

5. Quantum Computing

Quantum systems – technology overview/state of art; integration of quantum computers into an HPC center; quantum Internet:

6. HPC and ML in industry

Case studies of HPC, ML and quantum computing in industry; HW and SW requirements for AI and HPC in industry; advances for I/O large data storage technologies in industrial applications.

Although there isn’t a category for the following sessions, ISC High Performance 2022 also includes: education and training, system administration and monitoring, virtual reality, parallel file systems and neuromorphic computing technologies.

To launch the event, Rev Lebaredian, vice president of Omniverse and simulation technology at NVIDIA, and Michele Melchiorre, senior vice president of Production System, Technical Planning, Tool Shop at BMW Group, will be the keynote speakers of the opening talk on “digital twins” – the state of art in digital simulation technology – entitled “Supercomputing: the Key to Unlocking the Next Level of Digital Twins”.
