LIP performs research in experimental particle physics and associated technologies, enhancing the direct access of the Portuguese scientific community to international infrastructures and collaborations. At the centre of its mission are also scientific computing, advanced scientific and technical training and the engagement of society with science. Opportunities of knowledge and technology transfer to society are also explored, in domains such as health, Space exploration and information technologies.
LIP participates in national and international computing infrastructures and initiatives. LIP co-leads the Portuguese National Distributed Computing Infrastrcture (INCD), that under the national roadmap of research infrastructures delivers High Performance Computing, High Throughput Computing and Cloud Computing services for research, innovation and education.
