Twice a year, the HEPiX conference is held in different locations around the world, with the mission of promoting the sharing and exchange of knowledge, experiences and challenges of IT specialists in scientific computing.

The next one is scheduled to take place in Umeå, Sweden, and will feature a presentation by Samuel Bernardo, member of LIP’s computing group, on the morning of November 1st, at 9:50 AM (Portuguese winter time).

Samuel Bernardo will present the BigHPC project to several High Energy and Nuclear Physics laboratories around the world, namely the German Physics Institute of the Helmholtz Society (DESY), CERN and Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).

It began three years ago, “in the context of the implementation of the MACC and the BOB Supercomputer in Minho,” he says, noting that it has five partners: LIP, the Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science (INESC-TEC), the Portuguese company Wavecom, UT-Austin and the Minho Advanced Computing Center (MACC).

The goal, he explains, is “to develop a platform to improve and monitor the HPC infrastructures and also support the operationalization of the first HPC center where the Deucalion supercomputer will operate.

On stage, in addition to the presentation of the project, he will focus on the benefits associated with this platform – already in the final stages of development – which can also be useful for use in infrastructures that support Nuclear and High Energy Physics.
