Portugal takes part in AI innovation with EuroHPC collaboration

Portugal joins Europe’s groundbreaking AI factories initiative, empowering innovation and AI-driven solutions across industries.

Portugal is at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation as part of the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking’s AI Factories initiative. This cutting-edge project brings together national and European resources to create a robust network of AI centers across Europe, enabling advancements in AI research and applications.

Led by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and guided by the Portuguese government through the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation, the Ministry of Economy, and the Ministry of Youth and Modernization, Portugal’s participation highlights its commitment to technological excellence. This collaboration includes partnerships with Spain, Turkey, and Romania, operating under the leadership of renowned institutions such as the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer.

The AI Factory associated with MareNostrum 5 will empower businesses, SMEs, researchers, and public administration entities to harness the potential of AI. With an interface structure in Portugal, equipped with specialized teams, the initiative provides high-value services and support for developing and deploying AI-driven applications. This includes an experimental platform for testing cutting-edge AI models, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation across Europe.

As part of this transformative effort, Portugal continues to advance its technological capabilities, promoting AI adoption in healthcare, energy, climate transition, and beyond. This initiative ensures that Portugal’s business and research communities remain competitive in the global AI landscape while contributing to Europe’s digital future.
