The 4th Advanced Computing Meeting, organized by the National Advanced Computing Network (RNCA) on November 5th and 6th at the University of Beira Interior, gathered experts, researchers, and representatives from national and international institutions. With the support of EuroCC, the event highlighted the latest innovations and practices in advanced computing, promoting collaborative development and knowledge sharing.
The program, filled with interactive sessions and talks, began with practical workshops on proposal submissions and demonstrations of the Deucalion supercomputer. The opening session featured leaders from the University of Beira Interior and the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), who discussed the growing role of advanced computing in Portugal and the opportunities provided by the EuroCC Competence Center Network (NCC).
Among the presentations, highlights included discussions on the MareNostrum 5 and Deucalion infrastructures, essential for AI development and HPC (High Performance Computing) projects, as well as the impact of the national INCA2023 survey, which revealed the needs and challenges of research institutions in Portugal. Another key presentation addressed EuroCC2 and its support for European countries, including Portugal, in creating an efficient and accessible HPC ecosystem.
The second day expanded discussions with sessions on HPC software portability for new architectures, the use of containers in AI, and the experience of startups like DeepNeuronic in computational security. In closing, participants discussed the essential role of data visualization, and a more focused EuroCC2 partner meeting was held for project participants.
The 4th RNCA Meeting reaffirmed EuroCC and RNCA’s commitment to excellence in advanced computing, promoting a future where Portugal is at the forefront of digital and computational innovation in Europe.
