Lisbon hosts HEPiX Spring 2026, a global benchmark in scientific computing

Lisbon welcomes one of the world’s leading scientific IT events this April

From April 20 to 24, 2026, Lisbon will host the HEPiX Spring Workshop 2026, a landmark international event in scientific computing and infrastructure management. The workshop is organized by LIP – Laboratory of Instrumentation and Experimental Particle Physics and the CNCA – National Advanced Computing Centre, and will take place at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon.

What is HEPiX?

HEPiX (High Energy Physics Information Exchange) is a global forum that brings together IT professionals – including engineers, system administrators, and technical managers – from major scientific institutions in high-energy physics, nuclear physics, and data-intensive computing.

Since its inception in 1991, HEPiX has promoted the exchange of best practices, discussion of technical challenges, and adoption of new technological solutions in scientific data centers. Active members include organizations such as CERN, SLAC, BNL, DESY, KEK, INFN, FNAL, RAL, JLAB, among many others.

What to Expect from the Lisbon Edition?

The 2026 edition will cover the classic HEPiX topics – networks, storage, virtualization, security, cloud computing – while also placing a spotlight on emerging areas such as:

  • Facilities Evolution (in collaboration with the OTF group), focused on the future of WLCG infrastructures and new approaches to workflow and storage;
  • TechWatch, highlighting innovations in hardware and their impact on scientific computing;
  • Applied AI in Computing Centers, a new session on intelligent automation, adaptive resource management, and AI for data center operations.

The event will also feature a community-driven session, “Show us your toolbox”, showcasing hands-on demonstrations of tools used across the field.

Key Dates

  • Abstract submission: January 22 to April 1
  • Early-bird registration: January 22 to March 16 (€310)
  • Regular registration: March 17 to April 10

By bringing HEPiX to Portugal, this edition highlights the country’s and its institutions’ growing role at the forefront of scientific computing, fostering international collaboration and technical exchange among global experts.
