International Open Access Week, a global event now entering its fourteenth year, is an opportunity for open access advocates to engage their communities to teach them about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access a new norm in scholarship and research.
Begun in 2007 as Open Access Day, the event was originally a partnership between SPARC and students who organized local events on a handful of campuses across the United States. Since then, International Open Access Week has grown exponentially and is now celebrated at hundreds of events around the world.
