EuroHPC Summit 2024: A Convergence of Innovation and Collaboration

Serving as a focal point for leaders, researchers, and enthusiasts to explore the frontiers of HPC and its myriad applications, this year’s EuroHPC Summit had a special feature to it: EuroCC Portugal was on the programme

Organized by the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU), this year’s Summit took place in the heart of Antwerp, at the Flanders Meeting and Convention Centre, A Room With a Zoo.

From March 18th to March 21st, 2024, the EuroHPC Summit unfolded with a diverse program that encapsulated the multifaceted dimensions of High Performance Computing (HPC). Attendees were treated to a smorgasbord of keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, each designed to foster innovation and cross-pollination of ideas. The program, meticulously curated to reflect the evolving landscape of HPC, catered to a wide spectrum of interests and expertise, ensuring that participants found ample avenues for engagement and learning. This edition also brought to the table a Demo Lab, a space designed to provide an immersive HPC experience so that attendees could discover operational supercomputers, learn their capabilities and how to use them, while engaging with HPC Ambassadors.

At the heart of the event was a keen focus on emerging technologies shaping the future of HPC, including quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and edge computing. Experts delved into the intricate nuances of these technologies, exploring their potential to revolutionize industries, accelerate scientific discoveries, and address pressing global challenges.

One of the highlights of the EuroHPC Summit was our participation on the final day. EuroCC Portugal presented its Success Stories on the Elevate and Collaborate: European HPC NCCs and CoEs Workshop. During this session, we showcased some of our most impactful projects that exemplify the transformative potential of HPC in various sectors.

From investigating the ocean’s complexities to revolutionizing the footwear industry, from unraveling the mysteries of the human brain to combating the COVID-19 pandemic, our National Competence Center has been at the forefront of driving innovation and problem-solving through HPC.

In collaboration with esteemed partners and utilizing state-of-the-art HPC resources provided by our operational centers, we have enabled groundbreaking research and accelerated outcomes across diverse domains. Our success stories underscore the pivotal role of HPC in advancing scientific discovery, optimizing industrial processes, and addressing global challenges.
As we reflected on these achievements at the EuroHPC Summit, we were honored by the opportunity to showcase our work and contribute to the collective dialogue on the future of HPC in our country and beyond.

As the event wrapped up, attendees left feeling inspired and ready to make a difference. They gained new insights, made valuable connections, and shared a commitment to using HPC for positive change. With this newfound energy, they returned to their work ready to innovate and drive real-world impact.

Looking back, the summit showcased the collaborative and innovative spirit of the HPC community. With curiosity and teamwork as driving forces, the event highlighted the endless possibilities ahead.
